It wasn’t repopulate until 1307 when the Sultan decided to build a fortified city. They city was destroyed in 1339 by Castilla’s king and it wasn’t repopulate until the sixteenth century, when jewish from Spain occupied it. Spanish blocked the port because they wanted to stop the piracy. As a consequence of this, the city deteriorated until Mulay Ismail epoque. Spain retaked in 1862 and influenced the city until 1913. • Moulay Ismail built wonderful palaces, walls, mosque, medersas, gardens and fountains, that even today still surprised us for its incredible majesty beauty.
  • In his ambition to emulate the French monarch, they say he asked for the hand of his daughter, Mademoiselle de Blois, Conti's widow Princess. Kindly the Sun King declined the request, although in return, he sent her a beautiful collection of watches, which they say still today adorn his beautiful palace of Meknès, Dar El Makhzén.
  • It seems to have consoled himself soon, having more than 500 concubines and up to 867 children, although none of them have gone down in history for continuing or enriching his legacy.
